MRs. Collins' Classroom
Teaching is more than getting students to learn information. I have always viewed part of my duty as an educator is to help prepare students to "take flight" in the real world. At Leslie High School, the motto was Futures Taking Flight. There was a consensus among all faculty that our duties were more than teaching our subjects. This is why I chose the concentration of Technology and Learning. The only way to prepare students for the real world is to expose them to various forms of technology. I believe an integrated approach to technology and learning allows students to learn technology while also learning the subject matter.

harlem (A dream deferred)
By: Langston Hughes
What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore—
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over—
like a syrupy sweet?
Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.
Or does it explode?

Dream Journals
A semester long project to get students to think about their futures or dreams, students were required to write in their Dream Journal. Sometimes the writing had a prompt and other times they could just write whatever was on their mind.
dream quotes
Student selected Dream Quotes. Shared on the board in class and each student copied them to their Dream Journal.

DREAM songs
Within the Dream Unit, each student picked a song that they felt expressed what dreams meant to them. We spent a day in the computer lab combining all of the songs into a playlist on YouTube. We then played the song list in class until we had heard each song. Each student had to explain their selection.
