te 802 - Reflection and inquiry in teaching practice i
Instructor: Samantha caughlAn
Fall 2008
This course was during my internship year and it was all about preparing me to be an educator by reflecting and questioning my experiences in the classroom. I really felt like my classmates became my teacher colleagues and we learned from each others experiences as well as our own. In this class we used Screencast.com to participate in asynchronous discussions. We would upload videos that we took of our teaching and comment to each other through audio notes. It was enriching experience that technology made possible because my teacher colleagues could shadow my teaching without having to be present in the classroom. te 803 - professional roles and teaching practicum ii
instructor: gary sykes
spring 2009
This class was also during my internship year. This course was where I really began to think about students and motivation. I began to realize ways to increase motivation, both extrinsically and intrinsically. Finding ways to motivate students to actively participate in the learning process is at the heart of my teaching pedagogy. I think about it when I plan lessons and also seek opportunities for professional development related to it.
cep 820 - teaching k12 students online
instructor: leigh wolf
summer 2011
This class was my very first class in the Master of Arts in Education program and it ignited a fire in me in regards to online learning and teaching. We really put technology into practice in this class and I was introduced to new and emerging technologies on a daily basis. I created my first classroom website using Wikispaces in this course. As I created parts of my classroom website, I discussed the creation of the site through my developer notebook that was often created using screencast/jing.
cep 850 - tech, literacy for mild disabilities
instructor: maryl randel and cynthia okolo
summer 2011
Technology has made it possible to help all students be successful. In this course we devoted a lot of time into investigating, testing, and reviewing a variety of technology tools that would help students in the classroom. This included free and open source tools such as Firefox Add-Ons. I added a section to my wikispace classroom page dedicated to the literacy tools we discussed in this class. I also had the opportunity to participate in asynchronous discussion through twitter. Using twitter to micro-blog with my classmates was an amazing experience.
ed 800 - concepts of educational inquiry
instructor: steven weiland
fall 2011
This class is required by all Master of Arts in Education students. The purpose of the course was to learn about and inquire into the foundations of the education system. This included the history of the American education system. By sharing experiences and researching the changes in educational philosophy, I was able to really think about and question the evolution that has happened and begin to think about the future of schools. My final essay, "Educational Inquiry in the Age of the Internet" is the synthesis of my coursework in ED 800.
cep 815 - technology and leadership
instructors: nick sheltrown and leigh wolf
spring 2012
In this course I learned what was required to be a technology leader. Completion of the TPACK (Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge) assignment demonstrated what is required of educators in order to truly integrate technology in the classroom, yet still keep focus on the course content. I have referenced TPACK in every course I have taken since this course and feel it is a fundamental truth for all those working with technology and learning. Click the image to view my TPACK prezi.
ead 860 - concepts of a learning society
instructors: nick sheltrown and steven weiland
spring 2012
This course was all about the genealogy of the learning society. This included primary domains and activities of the learning society in their historical, social, economic, and cultural contexts and the experiences and views of individuals living and working in the learning society. A learning society is a society that continues to grow and learn informally past the formal education received from schooling. The reason this is possible is because of technology.
cep 883 - psychology of classroom discipline
instructors: vicky mousouli and evelyn oka
summer 2012
This class asked us to look deeper at each student to see what might have been effecting their behavior. We developed classroom discipline plans that focused on making expectations visible to all students and to ask students to set expectations for students. We reviewed numerous case studies and developed a plan for reaching students using the TARGET model. For a look at one of the case studies I completed in this class, please click the image to the left. The "Classroom Management" essay below is the final paper for the course and was a merging of my content knowledge from the course and the observations I made in the classroom.
ead 882 - Seminar in educational administration
instructor: steven weiland
summer 2012
In this course we learned so much about the new era of education that we are currently entering. This is because of technology. It used to be that teachers were the experts that held all of the knowledge. Students had to learn directly from the teacher, however now answers are often just a click away. This means that students need to become prosumers of information. My essay on this subject is below. This has changed how students learn and therefore should change our schools and how we teach. In this course we completed many writings based on articles from the web. Click the image to view one of my responses.
cep 816 - teaching and learning across curriculum
instructor: rand spiro
summer 2013
In this course I learned that I am a proponent of a 'chunky' classroom. What this means is that technology has made it so that teachers can pull together may pieces of information and media in order to instruct students. Instead of following a rote teaching style, we can integrate technology and use it in meaningful ways. Technology has changed the way students learn and the way teachers teach. This was an in-depth look at the read/write/web and how literacy has changed for students as they no longer just learn to read and write, but also how to publish and share. ed 870 - capstone seminar
instructor: matthew koehler
summer 2013
This course required me to look back and reflect on my time in the MAED Program. Thinking about my classes as the map to completing the program has shown me that although my journey was not free of roadblocks, I was able to finish. I reached this stopping point in my journey, pulled off at the rest stop, looked back at where I had been and set my sites on where I was headed. This capstone website you are viewing is a product of this course. The synthesis of all of my coursework can be found in my essays tab. The essay is "Technology is Changing the Course."
